Mdina derives from the Arabic word medinah: a walled city or quarter. This is evidence of an ancient Al-Andaluce, or Islamic Iberia which can be seen throughout the region, in its language, art, dance, music and architecture. This walled oasis, with its hidden nooks and crannies, is a place that often conjured up strong sense of tranquillity, sanctuary, familiarity, warmth, and affection, feelings that the owners want to share in their newfound home.
The name, architecture and decoration of this wonderful space, as well as its surroundings, reflect who the owners are, their roots and life experiences.

Originally from Britain, John is a teacher and translator who has lived in and around the Mediterranean for most of his adult life. His grandparents lived for many years in Malta, where John lived for a short time as a baby. The house evokes fond memories of his annually stays, often visiting Mdina, the ancient Phoenician capital of the island.
MDINA, a dream project come true.
Susana and John met in London where they lived for nine years. After rethinking their future, they decided to opt for a quiet rural environment where their children, Marley and Yago, would grow up. Looking for peace and tranquility, they found their home, Mdina, where they would eventually open their doors to those who were looking for a haven to regain energy and vitality.
The last important renovations carried out in the house were in 2019 by highlighting the architecture of the original house, and modernising the facilities with heating, air-conditioning and wiFi while tastefully decorating the spaces allows the Susana and John to offer guests a unique, and comfortable stay at Mdina.

This means that they are readily available for any queries the guests residing in the space might have. This also ensures that the guests’ every need is catered for.
